Beyond Observable Behavior: Measuring and Modifying the Function of Thought in School-Based Assessment

Saturday, March 7 2:55 PM - 3:55 PM Sacramento

Session Overview

Many elementary, middle and high school students engage in severe externalizing behaviors driven by rigid internal dialogue and psychological inflexibility rather than external contingencies. Traditional Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) often fail to assess or address these private events.

This symposium presents four interconnected research projects employing latency-based functional analyses to identify thought-driven behaviors, ACT-informed Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) targeting psychological flexibility, and classroom integration strategies.
